Santa Claus has come and gone, and a new year is upon us. If your home is anything like mine, January is a good time to perform a Home Organization Checkup. Santa brought my family some new things, but unfortunately he didn’t take anything with him when he left. It’s up to me to keep my home organized, and as they say, sometimes the painter’s home needs paint.
My husband and I just finished reorganizing the garage to make room for a new foosball table for our boys. We were already pretty well organized, but I found a few items in our garage that we really just didn’t need. Like you, we have a finite amount of space, so something had to go. After the garage project was complete, I started looking around the house. Getting organized feels great, but it is important to stay organized.
I thought you might appreciate a Quick Home Organization Checkup list.
- Don’t just put that unwanted gift in the closet; if you don't love it, pass it on to someone who will
- Clean out your children’s toy chest; with or without their input
- Donate unread books to the library; avoid jamming your new books into the books on your shelf
- Put items where they go – the holidays can be frantic, so make sure you are diligently keeping items where you previously decided they should go.
I hope you have found these tips helpful. Remember, organization is an ongoing process and a continuous commitment. If you find you need advice or even a little assistance after the holidays, I am here to help. The smallest amount of maintenance now can save lots of time and heartache down the road.
Happy 2016 New Year!
